Getting there From Escondido California: Take Valley Parkway, east to Lake Wohlford Road, turn right.
Go up the hill, past the lake about 3 miles, turn right on Paradise Mountain Road, at the first stop sign you encounter.
Continue on Paradise Mtn. Road. It ends at Los Hermanos Ranch Road, turn right, prepare to....
Take the first immediate jog left onto Kiavo Road, drive to the bottom of the hill The entrance to Hellhole Canyon Preserve is to the left at the end of Kiavo Drive.
We do not recommend the use of MapQuest or other online mapping services yet, as the maps are not reliable due to unmapped roads and private road access restrictions. Some phone numbers to try for directions should you get lost ….

Open Space

County-wide our open space is disappearing. Plants, animals and humans need space to roam and recreate. Will you donate to our Open Space Campaign which is used to purchase land to expand the preserve? Every little bit helps. Thank you!

Plants List

A plant group has been formed to help conduct a botanical survey of the park and to create an interpretive hiking trail for visitors. The interpretive hiking trail will be posted with signs identifying plants and presenting interesting facts about them, including their Native American names and uses. If you are interested in joining our plant group, please call Judy Zanolli at (760) 751-1870.
These are plants we project may be found in the Canyon. You can join our Plant Group to help us identify them!
